This investment thesis is the first in our Future of Computing theme. It gives an overview of larger trends that push the need for innovation in the computing space, particularly on the hardware side. These trends include:

  1. AI revolution
  2. Data explosion
  3. The memory bottleneck
  4. No Moore’s law
  5. Power consumption on the rise
  6. Potential goldmines

We then go on to describe hardware developments that address the computational gap created by the trends. We mention which sub-segments within the different computing fields that we are particularly interested in due to their potential impact, technology readiness, dependency of other innovations, and what we expect to come out of the innovation hubs in the Nordics. The hardware developments described are:

  • Accelerated computing
  • Bio computing
  • Neuromorphic computing
  • Optical computing
  • Quantum computing
  • Additional innovations
